The nominations for the Ballon Dor roll out, the nominations for the best goalkeeper have also been released. Softfootball understands that winners of these awards and the Ballon Dor will be announced in September.
10 goalkeepers from the whole Europe were nominated for the Yashin award which the special award for the goalkeepers. This years nominations are goalkeepers who proved a point last season between sticks and also helped their team achieve success.
The nominations was posted on the official verified X handle of the Ballon Dor. There were nominations for other awards as well on the handle.
For the Yashin, PSGs Gianluigi Donnarumma is tipped to be the winner as he was instrumental to what PSG achieved last season especially winning the UEFA Champions Leagu e for the first time.
The Italian is joined by Alisson Becker who helped Liverpool win another Premier League title. Yann Sommer who had very stand out season with Inter Milan is also on the list.
The Yashin award was first created in 2019. Alisson Becker was the first goalkeeper to win the award. Gianluigi Donnarumma was the second goalkeeper to win it followed by Real Madrids Courtois.
Aston Villa and Argentinas man Emiliano Martinez is the only goalkeeper to win it back to back and is the current holder of the award. He is also nominated for this years award.
If Martinez wins the award again, he becomes the first man to win it three times. Gianluigi Donnarumma has a very high to win this year however, if he does, he will equal Martinez record of winning it twice.
The award is named after former Soviet Union goalkeeper Lev Yashin, and the winner is selected by football journalists. Only Liverpool, Real Madrid, Aston Villa and PSG have seen their goalkeepers win it.
