They took an early lead when Hanane Ait El Haj converted a penalty in the 13th minute after Safa Banouk was fouled inside the box. AS FAR controlled the game from the flanks, with the pace of Zineb Erroudany and Banouk keeping the Ivorians under constant pressure.
ASEC Mimosas briefly threatened a comeback after the break when Ami Prisca Diallo headed in a delivery from Sopie Philomene Marie Ange Brou, leveling the score at 1-1.
But AS FAR remained composed, and in the 84th minute, Sofia Bouftini was brought down in the box. Experienced defender Zineb Redouani stepped up to convert the decisive penalty, securing victory and Africas representation in the FIFA Womens Champions Cup.
The Moroccan side will now face Chinese champions Wuhan Chegu Jiangda WFC in Round Two of the tournament on 14 December at the Stade Municipal de Berrechid, aiming to showcase Africas strength at the highest level of womens club football.
