The African Christian Democratic Party ACDP has voiced concerns over the employment of foreign nationals in key government roles, following the appointment of a Zimbabwean national as Chief Heritage Officer at Robben Island in Cape Town.
The party has warned that hiring foreign nationals in sensitive positions could pose a security risk, and has called on government departments to prioritise South African citizens for such posts.
ACDP President, Reverend Kenneth Meshoe, says the move contradicts government claims of correcting historical injustices.
"The sad thing is that the government is saying they are correcting the injustices of the past, they are removing white qualified individuals because whites were in the majority in most departments. But rather than replace them with blacks who qualify, they replace them with other blacks who are not South Africans. No other country in the world is doing such a thing," says Meshoe.
