The African National Congress ANC has confirmed that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu , who has been placed on special leave, offered to step aside from his party duties, following the establishment of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The party says its National Executive Committee NEC decided he should continue with his organisational responsibilities while on special leave from Cabinet.

The ANC says it maintains that Mchunu has not been charged in any court of law and it will closely monitor developments.
