An alleged suspect has sustained gunshot wounds and several other people are being treated for minor injuries after his vehicle crashed into multiple vehicles whilst fleeing from police at Underwood Road in Pinetown west of Durban.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says events leading up to the shooting are not clear.
Paramedics found multiple vehicles involved in a collision as well as a shooting incident as a result of the high-speed chase. Paramedics assessed the suspect who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. Paramedics treated him on scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital for further care. Another vehicle that was also involved in a collision was a family on their way home after the parents had fetched the children from school. Five occupants from that vehicle sustained minor to moderate injuries and also stabilised on scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for the further care. SAPS members also involved in the collision had sustained injuries.
Meanwhile earlier today, three most wanted criminals from a notorious gang were killed in a shootout with police at a house in Amaoti in Inanda township, north of Durban.
Police say the trio are part of a gang where four members were arrested a month ago in Cato Ridge.
