The Trump administration has launched an assault on multilateralism by pulling out of institutions like the World Health Organisation and cutting down US Agency for International Development USAID.
This is according to Senior Research Fellow Professor Adekeye Adebajo of the Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship at the University of Pretoria. His book launch coincides with this year's Africa Day. The book is titled The Black Atlantic's Triple Burden: Slavery, Colonialism and Reparations.
He says the Trump administration is also attacking diversity, inclusion and is setting back the civil rights movement.
Adebajo says Africa will bear the brunt of the aid cuts made by the US and European countries.
"We also have an assault on multilateralism. The US has pulled out of the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015, it has pulled out of the World Health Organisation. It's cut off the U.S Agency for International Development and cut off international aid. And the Europeans have more quietly done the same in cutting international assistance. So, a lot of these are going to affect Africa massively."
