The Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution CASAC says the appointment of Andy Mothibi as the next National Director of Public Prosecutions is unexpected.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the appointment on Tuesday.
It will take effect on February 1, 2026, as the tenure of the current head, Shamila Batohi, comes to an end.
