Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive research on applicable policy, legislation, and legal principles to draft formal legal opinions
  • Evaluate legislation for compliance with principles of drafting and statutory interpretation
  • Liaise with the Office of the State Attorney and manage instructions to counsel/advocates
  • Monitor and manage departmental litigation from inception to finalization
  • Explore and implement Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) options to mitigate litigation costs
  • Draft, verify, and certify departmental contracts and service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Provide recommendations on settlement offers and negotiate with opposing legal teams
  • Ensure departmental intentions are accurately reflected in proposed or amended legislative bills.
