Requirements
- Minimum of 9 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC
- Minimum of 5 years appropriate/recognizable experience in the Intensive Nursing specialty after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Coordinate optimal and holistic specialized critical care nursing within established professional and legal frameworks
- Manage the effective utilization, supervision, and allocation of human and material resources within the ICU
- Oversee clinical nursing practices to ensure strict adherence to the scope of practice and intensive care standards
- Lead the multidisciplinary clinical team to maintain high-quality patient care for critically ill patients
- Coordinate and facilitate clinical training and research initiatives within the specialized unit
- Monitor and ensure compliance with the Nursing Act, Health Act, and Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Communicate effectively with patients, multidisciplinary health professionals, and junior staff, including complex technical report writing
- Implement and oversee HR and financial policies, including performance management and disciplinary procedures
- Foster a professional network to enhance critical care service delivery and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Advocate for patient rights and ensure the unit adheres to Batho Pele principles to promote centered care.
