Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Serve as the Accounting Officer in terms of the PFMA, ensuring a clean audit and sound financial governance
- Direct the conservation and sustainable utilization of Gauteng's biological resources and six nature reserves
- Drive the provincial Green Economy Strategy and climate change mitigation/adaptation interventions
- Oversee environmental quality management, including air quality, waste management, and pollution control
- Enforce environmental legislation and manage the issuance of environmental impact authorizations
- Lead community empowerment through environmental awareness and capacity building programs
- Advance provincial eco-tourism and the utilization of green technologies
- Strengthen intergovernmental relations with municipalities, SOEs, and the private sector
- Ensure departmental alignment with the National Development Plan (NDP) and GGT 2030 priorities
