Minimum Qualification

MBChB plus Specialist Registration with HPCSA as a Psychiatrist (FCP Psych (SA) / MMed or equivalent)

Experience Required

3 years as Specialist, 1 year Management in Specialist Psychiatry and Clinical Unit Management

Required Competencies & Skills

  • Expert knowledge of the Mental Health Care Act and psychiatric clinical protocols
  • Advanced leadership, organizational, and program planning skills
  • Ability to provide expert psychiatric forensic/clinical opinions
  • Proficiency in clinical research methodologies and data analysis
  • Strong communication skills for multidisciplinary team coordination
  • Strategic management of clinical resources and personnel
  • Knowledge of substance abuse comorbidity management

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Medical Specialist (Psychiatrist) post-registration
  • At least 1 year of management and administration experience

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Lead the psychiatric clinical unit providing specialist assessment and evaluation of Mental Healthcare Users (MHCUs)
  • Direct academic teaching and clinical training for Medical, Nursing, and Allied Health students
  • Provide specialist outreach, guidance, and training to clinical and management staff within Area 2
  • Develop and implement clinical guidelines, referral pathways, and protocols for MHCU management
  • Oversee the efficient and economical use of human and financial resources within the unit
  • Supervise and stimulate clinical research and ensure all relevant policies are operational
  • Lead clinical audits and participate in hospital governance through various committees
  • Develop specialized programs focused on psychosocial rehabilitation and dual-diagnosis management (substance abuse)

R2084754 - R2212680 per annum, (package). Other Benefits: 13th Cheque, Plus 18% Inhospitable Area Allowance, Commuted Overtime AND Medical Aid: Optional (Employee must meet Prescribed Requirements)
