  • Grade 1: National Senior Certificate plus Basic Life Support (BLS) course.
  • Grade 3: Intermediate Life Support (ILS) course.
  • Current HPCSA registration (2026/2027).

Required Competencies & Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Intermediate Life Support (ILS) protocols
  • Valid Code 10 driver's license with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP)
  • Strong administrative and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to work under high-pressure emergency conditions
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical fitness and ability to handle medical equipment.

Requirements

Grade 1: None required after registration with HPCSA as Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA). Grade 3: None required after registration with HPCSA as Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA).

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Render emergency medical care and professional transportation of sick and injured persons according to HPCSA protocols
  • Perform inter-facility transfers of patients between health institutions
  • Manage basic administration including patient records, vehicle checklists, and log sheets
  • Maintain the cleanliness and operational readiness of all medical equipment, emergency vehicles, and the base station
  • Adhere to health and safety standards during emergency operations
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the EMS supervisor.

Remunaration

  • Grade 1: R187488 - R214368 PER ANNUM.
  • Grade 2- 3: R217983 - R286521 PER ANNUM PLUS 13TH CHEQUE, HOUSING ALLOWANCE, MEDICAL AID (OPTIONAL, EMPLOYEE MUST MEET THE PRESCRIBED REQUIREMENTS..
