Minimum Qualification
- Basic R425 qualification (i.e.
- Diploma/Degree in Nursing) or equivalent allowing registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse
Experience Required
7 years post-registration in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing
Required Competencies & Skills
- Strong leadership and clinical coordination qualities
- In-depth knowledge of the Mental Health Care Act and relevant provincial policies
- Excellent report writing, organizing, and planning skills
- Ability to conduct community awareness campaigns and engage diverse stakeholders
- Effective interpersonal communication and the ability to work under pressure
- Proficiency in MS Office and general computer literacy
- Valid driver's license for facility and home visits.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Coordinate and manage the Mental Health and Substance Abuse programme at the sub-district level
- Ensure strict implementation of the Mental Health Care Act (Act No. 17 of 2002) and related policies
- Conduct support visits to health facilities and home visits to mental health care users, including state patients and their families
- Facilitate the establishment of community-based mental health services and support groups
- Oversee the management of state patients and those in chronic care facilities
- Lead advocacy, promotion, and prevention campaigns regarding mental illness and substance abuse
- Liaise with other government departments and NGOs to enhance service delivery
- Assist in the development of strategic and operational plans for the programme
- Plan and organize work for support personnel to ensure high-quality nursing care.
