Minimum Qualification

  • NQF 6 qualification in Environmental Health.
  • Current registration with the HPCSA as an Environmental Health Practitioner.

Experience Required

3 Year in Environmental Health

  • In-depth knowledge of environmental health legislation and International Health Regulations
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills for managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency in project management and stakeholder engagement
  • Advanced research, analysis, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently under pressure and manage irregular hours
  • Technical competency in MS Office and the District Health Information System (DHIS).

Requirements

Minimum of three (3) years' experience in environmental health services post-qualification.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manage and supervise Environmental Health Practitioners (EHPs) within the District including staff development and performance monitoring
  • Plan and implement Environmental Health Strategies and coordinate services across various units and facilities
  • Develop, implement, and review environmental health policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Monitor healthcare facilities to ensure compliance with national norms, standards, and International Health Regulations
  • Lead environmental health responses during emergencies, outbreaks, and disaster preparedness planning
  • Investigate food safety concerns, outbreaks, and violations in collaboration with Municipal Health services
  • Advise District leadership on chemical safety, hazardous substances, spill management, and environmental health risks
  • Prepare high-level technical reports and monitor trends, incidents, and performance indicators via DHIS
  • Coordinate training programs for PHC staff and facilitate community awareness campaigns according to the health calendar
  • Participate in specialized health activities including Malaria control and Ideal Clinic support.

Salary Detail

Remunaration

R575250 per annum, plus 13th Cheque, Housing Allowance, Medical Aid (Optional, Employee must meet the prescribed requirements.
