Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Strategic oversight and management of the Provincial Disaster Management system in KwaZulu-Natal
- Lead the provincial implementation of the Disaster Management Act (Act 57 of 2002) and the Fire Brigade Services Act
- Institutionalize an integrated and uniform disaster management framework across all provincial departments and municipalities
- Establish and manage capacity-building mechanisms for fire, rescue, and disaster services within local government structures
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of provincial disaster response and fire services
- Drive the development of provincial policies, standard operating procedures, and long-term disaster risk reduction strategies
- Manage the high-level human, financial, and technological resources of the Provincial Disaster Management Centre (PDMC)
- Facilitate intergovernmental relations and partnerships with NGOs, the private sector, and international disaster relief organizations
