Former President Jacob Zuma is at risk of losing his assets, including presidential pension, if he fails to pay back R28.9 million in legal fees and interest linked to his long-running arms deal case.

On Wednesday 22 October, the Pretoria high court ruled that Zuma must repay the state within 60 days, failure to which his assets would be attached.

In December 2018, the court found that the state was not liable for legal costs it had incurred during the arms deal-related litigation, ruling that the litigation had been instituted against Zuma in his personal capacity.
