Wydad Casablanca have announced the departure of Rulani Mokwena after reaching an agreement to terminate his contract by mutual consent.

The South African was appointed head coach in July 2024 in the wake of his surprise exit from Mamelodi Sundowns, whom he had guided to a seventh consecutive Betway Premiership title the previous month.

But Mokwena wasnt able to mount a serious title challenge in the Botola Pro and won just 11 of his 27 games at the helm before being placed on special leave by the Moroccan giants.

The 38-year-old went unbeaten in his last 11 matches, but ended his tenure with a run of six successive draws and the Red Castle finished in sixth place after winning their final three fixtures under caretaker coach Amine Benhachem.

Wydad Athletic Club and Rulani Mokwena have mutually agreed to terminate their contract with immediate effect, the club said in a statement on Tuesday evening.
