The University of the Witwatersrand Wits University has announced the launch of two new postgraduate degrees in cybersecurity, effective from the 2026 academic year. These programmes are designed to cultivate highly skilled professionals essential for safeguarding Africa's digital future.
The two new, fully accredited programmes are the Bachelor of Science Honours BScHons and the Master of Science MSc in Cybersecurity. Both are currently open for applications on the Wits online system, with a closing date of 31 December 2025. These degrees combine a rigorous academic foundation with practical, real-world applications, preparing graduates for advanced careers in cybersecurity, data protection, and trustworthy artificial intelligence AI.
The School of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics CSAM highlighted that the qualifications will focus on advanced cybersecurity principles and technologies, the use of AI and machine learning for digital security, the ethical and legal aspects of information security, and applied research addressing local and global cybersecurity challenges.
