The Western Cape is on high alert as the festive season looms, following a troubling surge of 24 arrests for drunk driving over just one week, reports Cape town Etc .
The statistic emerged during extensive enforcement operations conducted by Provincial Traffic Services from 17 to 23 November 2025, where officials executed 168 integrated roadblocks and checks across the province.
In a sweeping initiative that stopped and inspected more than 30 000 vehicles, authorities issued upwards of 9 000 fines for various violations related to driver behaviour and vehicle fitness.
