The Western Cape has welcomed the new year with encouraging news regarding road safety, recording a significant decline in weekly road fatalities, reports Cape town Etc .
The period from 5 to 11 January 2026 saw a total of 11 fatal crashes leading to 12 fatalities, a notable drop from the 25 lives lost between 29 December 2025 and 4 January 2026.
Among the lives lost in the recent reporting period, eight were pedestrians, while two were motorcyclists, and the remaining two were drivers. This pattern highlights the critical need for ongoing efforts to improve road safety for those most exposed on the provincial road network.
