In the first match of the SA20 2025-26 at the Wanderers, Johannesburg, Donovan Ferreira almost recreated one of the most iconic finishes to a T20 game, similar to the one that happened in the group stage match between India and Bangladesh during the 2016 World Cup in Bangalore. Ferreira, the wicketkeeper for Joburg Super Kings, affected a run out on the last ball of the innings to ensure that the Durban's Super Giants could not get over the finishing line.
The match was tied, and eventually the Super Kings won via the Super Over. Meanwhile, their skipper Faf du Plessis was reminded of the smart work done by MS Dhoni with the gloves in 2016, which made sure that India won a cliffhanger of a contest. The scenes were similar, but this time the match was tied, and later won by du Plessis Co.
Speaking more about the match, Ferreira made truly one of the best all-round performances in a T20 match. Apart from the brilliant run out induced with presence of mind, the South African cricketer also hit a blazing cameo of 33 from just 10 balls, and read figures of 1/24 with the ball. The run-out, however, was like an icing on the cake.
