Beachgoers were left stunned yesterday after a car was found wrecked on Glencairn Beach, with video footage revealing the shocking moment it flew off the nearby road and landed on the sand, Cape town Etc reports.
The mangled vehicle came to a stop just metres from the waterline, surrounded by scattered debris.
Photographer Nigel Riley shared dramatic images of the scene on Facebook early Tuesday morning, capturing the bizarre aftermath. In the comments, one user claimed that witnesses who arrived shortly after the crash said the driver was 'stone cold sober' and had only suffered a broken leg.
A video circulating on social media shows the car hurtling down the roadway at high speed before launching into the air and crashing onto the beach.
It remains unclear how the driver lost control, and authorities have not yet released an official statement.
