Walmart, the global retail giant and majority owner of Massmart, has announced it will open its first branded stores in South Africa later this year, introducing its globally recognised brand and low-price strategy to local consumers.
The expansion follows Walmart's first Growth Summit in South Africa, held in April, which engaged suppliers from 12 African countries, according to Moneyweb . The stores will feature both in-person and digital shopping experiences, with a focus on affordability and quality.
Walmart International President and CEO Kath McLay emphasised the company's commitment to partnering with local suppliers and celebrating South African culture while maintaining global standards.
