Walmart Lights Up Its First Ever Store In South Africa In Johannesburg

American retail giant Walmart has lit up its first branded store in South Africa, keeping up with plans to open stores before the end of 2025.

The retailer announced its entry in the South African market on 9 September. Through Massmart, it already owns 100 percent of major local brands such as Game, Makro , Builders and Cash Carry.

The first Walmart storefront on African soil lit up last night, Massmart said in a post on X on Tuesday 14 October, without revealing the outlets location or official opening date.
