The National Consumer Commission NCC says the Volkswagen Group South Africa has recalled 142 Volkswagen Polos and eight Volkswagen Taigo. This is due to safety concerns.
"We received this notification in terms of Section 60 from VW South Africa. They picked up that there is a problem with the front passenger airbag of their VW Polos, as well as eight of their Taigo vehicles," says Head of Complaints and Investigations at the National Consumer Commission, Prudence Moilwa.
She says when there is an accident, where the front airbag would deploy, there may be an increased risk of injury to the passengers as the gas generators may either explode or burst, and the components therein may become loose, causing serious injuries or even deadly injuries to occupants.
The NCC has urged consumers to come forward for the necessary repairs. Moilwa says Volkswagen Polo or Tiago owners should contact Volkswagen South Africa or the NCC for assistance.
Everybody who is in possession of a VW Polo or the Tiago vehicles should go to the VW website and punch in the vin number to check if the vehicle is part of this campaign," says Moilwa.
