Us Seeking Tariff Talks With China Over Mounting Trade Pressures

Chinese state-linked media reported on Thursday that US officials have initiated contact with Beijing to discuss the escalating tariff dispute that has disrupted global markets and supply chains.
According to Yuyuan Tantian , an outlet affiliated with China's state broadcaster CCTV , Washington is "proactively" seeking dialogue through "multiple channels" over the steep tariffs both countries have imposed on each other recently.
The report said US representatives were showing greater urgency in re-establishing communication, claiming, "From a negotiation standpoint, the US is currently the more anxious party. The Trump administration is facing multiple pressures."
The publication, known for mixing news with commentary, shared the claims on China's Weibo platform, a social media site similar to X formerly Twitter. AFP has contacted China's foreign ministry for a response but has yet to receive confirmation.
The report comes amid heightened trade tensions after the United States implemented tariffs as high as 145 per cent on a wide range of Chinese imports in April. In retaliation, Beijing imposed its own set of duties reaching up to 125 per cent on American goods.
