Ugandan human rights lawyer Doctor Sarah Bireete has been formally charged with unlawfully obtaining or disclosing personal data. This follows her arrest last month after security forces, including police and military personnel, surrounded her home in Kampala. The arrest comes just days after Doctor Bireete urged Ugandans to seek alternative internet access ahead of the January 15 general elections, amid fears of possible internet shutdowns.
So yesterday, before we entered the court, they gave us a charge sheet. And the charge sheet was- she was charged under Section 35 of the election. electoral commission act which or whereby she was she was being charged of publishing information without seekings ah the the approval of the chairman of the Electoral Commission.
