uct investigation finds some residence catering claims fabricated
The University of Cape Town UCT has completed an internal investigation into recent claims about residence catering and found that parts of the social media narrative were not accurate CapetownEtc reports. The probe concluded that some posts were fabricated and that a number of images were either not taken at UCT or had been recycled from earlier incidents already addressed.

UCT told Capetown Etc that it received a formal complaint from one parent and used electronic meal records to check the student's visits.

The university's system shows the student last ate in a residence dining hall on 4 September 2025 , despite claims they had eaten there on 14, 16 and 22 September 2025 . The student has been redeeming meal vouchers at external vendors, the university said.

The university outlined the steps it already has in place to protect student health and maintain food safety.
