City of Tshwane MMC for Corporate and Shared Services Kholofelo Morodi says she is committed to eliminating corruption within the municipalitys ranks, while bolstering internal controls to prevent further sabotage of the citys power infrastructure.

This comes after three municipal officials were arrested yesterday for allegedly stealing a R7 million transformer from the Laudium electricity substation in Pretoria.

The suspects are scheduled to appear in the Pretoria Magistrates Court today on charges relating to the theft of essential infrastructure.

Morodi explains, Theres been an investment of more than half a billion into our asset protection. We are looking at technology. We are also making sure that there is proper vetting. There are new systems that they are putting in place now. Weve had a new entry and exit protocol that theyve put in the different substations.

So this is something that we have prioritised because we realised that it was a weakness and since then we have put in those mechanisms to ensure that we are able to control exit into the substations. But also, what we are doing is investing more money into safeguarding the physical infrastructure itself.
