Japans Hokkaido Railway Company will launch two new tourist trains in Hokkaido in 2027.
The Red Star will debut in February 2027 to align with the drift ice season along the Sea of Okhotsk with a two-day round trip between JR Sapporo and Abashiri stations. From April to July the route will run between JR Kushiro and Shiretoko-Shari.
According to Asahi, the train can accommodate around 100 passengers and includes private and semi-private compartments, as well as a lounge and a tearoom.
