The third Technical Meeting of the G20 on the Empowerment of Women is underway at Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga. It is aimed at promoting womens participation in the economy and their representation in leadership, governance, and decision-making. It is also aims to enhance womens ownership and control.
Several G20 member states, along with invited countries, are participating in the four-day engagement which will conclude on Friday.
Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Minister, Sindisiwe Chikunga says womens contribution is hardly recognised.
The care economy is that economy that is mainly done by women at home taking care of children, taking care of sick family members, washing dishes, cleaning the house, etc. It contributes a lot in the normal economy. You will not be here if no one who ensured that theres food in the house, the house is clean, your dresses are ironed and washed. And therefore behind this main economy there is a care economy that is not recognised, Chikunga says.
