The 18 African Cardinal Electors That Will Vote For New Pope

The Vatican announced on 28 April that the conclave to elect a new Pope will begin on Wednesday, 7 May, taking place behind closed doors in the Vatican's Sistine Chapel. The upcoming conclave election of a new pope will consist of 133 cardinal electors who will vote behind locked doors four times a day until a new pope is elected with a two-thirds majority.

Of the 133 cardinal electors anticipated to vote for a new pope starting on Wednesday, 18 of them hail from Africa, with 12 of them being appointed to the College of Cardinals by Pope Francis. They hail from 17 countries throughout the continent, including South Africas very own Stephen Brislin, the Archbishop of Johannesburg.
