Promising goalkeeper Cheikh Tour , a product of Esprit Foot Yeumbeul in Senegal, has been found dead in Kumasi, Ghana , after falling victim to a fake transfer deal .
Tour had reportedly been promised a trial with a Moroccan club and travelled to Ghana to meet an alleged agent. Once there, he was kidnapped by the group , who later demanded a ransom from his family. When the money couldnt be raised, the kidnappers allegedly killed him .
In a statement, Senegals Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad condemned what he called a cruel and senseless act against a young man chasing his football dream. He added that the government is working closely with Ghanaian authorities to uncover the truth and bring those responsible to justice.
Two officials from Senegals embassy in Accra have been dispatched to Kumasi to assist with the investigation and prepare the repatriation of Tours body , currently held at the Ebenezer Morgue in Tafo , Ashanti Region.
The heartbreaking news has sparked outrage and grief across social media , with football lovers demanding justice for the slain youngster.
In a video shared online, Cheikh Tours devastated mother described the pain of losing her son to people who took advantage of his dream.
Authorities believe the case is linked to a fraud and extortion network targeting aspiring footballers across West Africa.
The situation is becoming increasingly worrying. Another young Senegalese, identified as Momo , also from Yeumbeul, is currently missing in Ghana . According to Yeumbeul TV , he was reportedly taken by the same group that lured Tour.
Momo was last known to be staying at a hotel, where he was allegedly asked to pay 850,000 CFA francs . His family has had no contact with him for four days. His sisters raised the alarm after receiving disturbing messages from him asking for money and describing a confusing situation.
This new disappearance, coming so soon after Tours death, has raised further concerns about the safety of young Senegalese footballers abroad. Families and journalists are now urging authorities to act swiftly before another tragedy strikes.
