Syria Advances Digital Reconstruction With Landmark Submarine Cable Agreement

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology MCIT announced the signing of the agreement to land the first international submarine cable at the Tartous station, under the title of Connecting Continents, in the presence of the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mr. Abdel Salam Heikal, and the representative of the Spanish company Medusa, Mr. Norman Albi.

The signing of the agreement came within the framework of a new phase of the reconstruction of Syrias digital infrastructure, as the project contributes to reconnecting international networks via submarine cables, facilitates data exchange, and represents a strategic pillar to re-establish Syrias position as an international and regional hub for communications and the Internet between Asia and Europe.

Minister Heikal conducted a field visit to the port of Tartous, during which he was accompanied by a number of dignitaries of the city, where he inspected the landing site of the submarine cable, stressing the importance of this line and its role in implementing the ministrys vision aimed at transforming Syria into an international and regional center for Internet traffic, and providing a technical environment that supports economic and digital development.
