South Africas paleontological tourism sector has marked a significant milestone with the public debut of the Kgodumodumo Dinosaur Interpretive Centre in Golden Gate Highlands National Park, Cape town Etc reports
This comes after operational figures released by SANParks indicate the facility attracted 8,826 visitors between its 23 June opening and 8 July, demonstrating substantial public interest in the countrys prehistoric heritage.
The attendance surge coincides with both the winter school holiday period and SANParks temporary waiver of entrance fees, an initiative scheduled to run until 30 September.
Domestic tourists formed the vast majority of visitors. Free State residents led the surge with 4,963 visitors, followed by 2,566 from Gauteng and 426 from KwaZulu-Natal.
The centre, open daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, offers interactive exhibitions and fossil displays, allowing families, learners, and science enthusiasts to journey into South Africas ancient past.
