A remarkable rescue operation resulted in the safe retrieval of a young Stellenbosch University student stranded by the Elandspad River in Du Toitskloof for nearly 24 hours, following a sudden and severe flash flood, reports Cape town Etc .
The harrowing saga began on Sunday when a group of four friends set out on a hike. As skies darkened and conditions worsened, they made the responsible decision to abandon their trek and return.
Yet, by the time they reached the Elandspad River crossing, the situation had deteriorated drastically. Heavy rainfall transformed the river into a treacherous torrent, swelling dramatically and posing serious threats to life.
