Tottenham Hotspur's Brennan Johnson celebrated a momentous victory on Wednesday, declaring that the club had finally shed its reputation as 'serial losers" after their 1-0 triumph over Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Johnson's scrappy goal just before halftime secured a tense and low-quality final, ending Spurs' 17-year wait for silverware.
Despite both teams struggling near the bottom of the Premier League this season, Johnson said that their domestic troubles no longer mattered, with Tottenham set to compete in the Champions League next season.
"This season hasn't been good at all, but I swear, not one of us players right now cares about that," Johnson told TNT Sports. "This club hasn't won a trophy for 17 years this is what it means - it means so much! All the fans get battered, we get battered, not winning a trophy, not winning anything, but getting to get the first one in a while today, I'm so happy."
Johnson also addressed the long-standing criticism of Tottenham as a team that "never gets it done." "Ever since I came here, it's been, 'Tottenham are a good team, but they never get it done'-we've got it done!"
