Nine Lives, a hidden speakeasy located between the fourth and fifth floors of HYDE Johannesburg in Rosebank, has opened, introducing what the hotel describes as the citys first inter-floor speakeasy concept.
The venue draws on a 1970s-inspired design and combines a cocktail-led bar with a compact dining offering. It operates as an after-hours space aimed at hotel guests and local residents.
Key features include a concealed location between hotel floors, a cocktail programme centred on carbonated martinis and clarified classics, and a back bar featuring international spirits not widely available in South Africa. The food menu includes fusion dishes such as smoky bonito risotto, tuna tostada and pork dumplings.
