An SPCA inspector was assaulted while carrying out a court-authorised rescue of four dogs in Longlands, Strand, after neighbours reported a severely ill animal. Inspector Lwazi Ntungele attended the property on 15 October 2025, reports Cape town Etc .

According to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA , he found clear signs of prolonged suffering and applied to the Strand Magistrate's Court for a warrant under the Animals Protection Act.

Officers returned on 16 October with members of the Strand SAPS to execute the warrant. The occupants refused entry and became hostile. As inspectors began to remove the animals, two people at the property assaulted Inspector Ntungele.
