OpenAI's AI-powered video app, Sora, has made a strong debut on Android, racking up an estimated 470,000 downloads across available markets on its first day, according to data from app analytics firm Appfigures.
The figure represents a 327 increase compared to Sora's iOS launch, which recorded roughly 110,000 first-day installs. However, Appfigures noted that the comparison isn't entirely direct, as Sora for iOS initially launched only in the U.S. and Canada under an invite-only system, while the Android version rolled out to seven markets, including the U.S., Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, without restrictions.
Despite its early exclusivity, Sora's iOS app reached over one million installs within a week, climbing to the top of the App Store and currently ranking No. 4 among free iPhone apps in the U.S.
