In a huge setback for India, Shubman Gill is reportedly ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa due to the neck injury he sustained during the first Test. According to reports, the right-handed batter's participation in the five-match T20I series against the Proteas is also uncertain.
Shubman Gill walked off after just three balls in the first innings at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The young batter suffered a neck spasm after playing a sweep shot. The medical staff took him to a private hospital, and he did not come out to bat again. India failed to chase the 124-run target and suffered a 30-run defeat.
He was released from the hospital after the match. The BCCI confirmed that he would undergo further evaluation in Mumbai to assess the extent of the issue. Gill travelled with the squad to Guwahati but wasn't included in the playing XI.
