shivambu considering forming a new political party

The Mayibuye Consultation Process is preparing for the possibility that it may need to form a new party to contest the 2026 Local Government Elections.

Mayibuye National Convenor Floyd Shivambu was giving an update in Midrand, where he says ten parties represented in a number of local councils have already expressed their willingness to participate in the process as well as thousands of volunteers who have pledged their support via social media platforms.

The consultation process will produce a report which Shivambu says will chart a way forward.

Once we have processed the report qualitatively and quantitatively, we are going to then call a national convention or a national conference, which is going to formalize the outcomes of the consultation process. If the outcomes of the consultation process are that we must launch a political party or movement, the national convention is going to do exactly that. And then we will then prepare, if the mandate is that we must contest the 2026 local government elections and the 2029 general elections, we are going to do so and win those elections decisively.
