An intense hailstorm has left a trail of destruction in several areas around the North West capital, Mahikeng . Many houses have suffered significant damage with roofs caving in and walls collapsing . Among those affected is pensioner, Emily Nageng, who says she and her grandchildren are going to struggle even more now . I was sitting when I suddenly saw the wall collapsing. It fell onto the counters, and all the groceries got wet. Everything was soaked, even the childrens clothes. They could not go to school today. Im asking for help because I do not work - Im a pensioner and have no one to depend on. I do not know where we are going to sleep tonight, and I dont know what the children are going to eat, says Nageng. These people say they are unable to rebuild their houses due to financial difficulties.
We hardly slept last night. It was very painful, and being a single parent, it is not going to be easy. I'm really concerned about what I am going to do now. The roof and the home appliances are ruined. The main thing, I need help with is fixing the roof. That will bring me the most joy and relief.
