Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza says security measures have been implemented to protect senior forensic auditors working on high-profile investigations at the metro.
This follows the killing of 47-year-old chief forensic auditor in the municipality, Mpho Mafole .
Mafole was gunned down at the end of last month while driving on the R23 in Kempton Park.
He had been investigating a R2 billion electricity scandal at the municipality.
Xhakaza says the safety of audit staff is critical, especially as municipalities are preparing to submit their financial reports to the Auditor Generals office.
