South Africans are increasingly buying cars from Chinese brands, with AutoTrader's latest Mid-Year Report revealing a steep 89 growth in sales of these brands in the first half of 2025.
Sales of BYD cars skyrocketed by 637, followed by Omoda 99 and Jaecoo 168. The trend is evident in both new and used car sales.
While these percentages are striking, they reflect growth from a relatively smaller base, as these brands are still emerging players in South Africa's automotive market, the report notes.
