Mohamed Salah has condemned sections of Liverpool's fanbase for booing Trent Alexander-Arnold during his first appearance since announcing his departure from the club, describing their reaction as harsh and undeserved.

Alexander-Arnold, who is widely expected to join Real Madrid when his contract expires in June, was jeered by some fans at Anfield as he came off the bench during Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Sunday.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, Salah expressed disappointment at the reaction from the stands. The Egyptian forward called on supporters to show more appreciation for a player who has dedicated nearly two decades to the club.

I was surprised because this is not how we act as Liverpool fans, said Salah. I think somehow the fans were being harsh with him. He didn't deserve it. He gave it all to the fans.

Alexander-Arnold, 26, has been a key figure at Liverpool since making his senior debut in 2016. A product of the club's academy, he has gone on to make 353 appearances and win every major domestic and European title available, including two Premier League trophies and the Champions League.
