International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola says South African exports do not compete with the United States producers and do not pose a threat to US industry.

Lamola says the country is responding to US tariffs with a comprehensive plan.

The 30 tariff recently announced by the US President Donald Trump's administration will take effect on August 7.

Lamola and Trade and Industry Minister Parks Tau have been giving an update on South Africas mitigation measures on the imposition of the tariff.

The calculation of US-SA trade deficit ignores the substantial US trade surplus and services, as well as the complementary nature of the bilateral trade and investment retaliations between the two countries. SA exports dont compete with US producers and do not pose a threat to US industry. On the contrary, our exports are crucial inputs that support Americans own industrial base. Our agricultural exports are even counter-seasonal, meaning they fill gaps in the US markets, not replace domestic products.
