sa drivers set for fuel price drop in june

Motorists across South Africa may soon feel a bit of relief at the pumps, as early data suggests another round of fuel price cuts is on the cards for June 2025 - marking the fourth month in a row of declining petrol prices.

According to mid-month data released by the Central Energy Fund CEF , unaudited figures indicate a favourable shift in fuel costs, largely thanks to stabilised global oil prices and a stronger rand. While official confirmation from the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy is still pending, the early signs are promising.

Petrol users can expect moderate reductions, with Petrol 93 likely to drop by 26 cents per litre and Petrol 95 down by approximately 25 cents. Diesel users stand to benefit even more, with both the 0.05 and 0.005 sulphur grades predicted to fall by 53 cents per litre. Illuminating paraffin, commonly used for cooking and heating, could also see a cut of 56 cents per litre.

If these projections hold, diesel will hit its lowest price point in nearly three years - a significant development for industries reliant on fuel for transport and logistics. As of May 2025, diesel at inland rates stands at R18.90 for 0.05 and R18.94 for 0.005, but could drop to R18.37 and R18.41 respectively. Coastal rates may sink even further, with diesel nearing R17.58.

Petrol, too, is expected to drop to R21.03 93 and R21.15 95 inland, while coastal drivers could pay R20.24 and R20.36 respectively.
