Rulani Mokwena to Orlando Pirates?

Now, according to reputable football publication Unplayable , a deal between the two is imminent.

Unplayable can confirm Orlando Pirates are close to appointing Rulani Mokwena as their new head coach. Our sources say his return to the club is imminent, the publication wrote on X on Saturday 21 June.

If this move materialises, it will mark Rulanis sensational return to the club he served as assistant coach under Milutin Sredojevic between 2017 and 2019.

The club subsequently appointed the talented tactician, 38, as interim head coach when Sredojevic resigned in August 2019. He was in charge for 14 matches.

Not only has Rulani coached the Bucs previously, but he also has historical ties with the club. His grandfather, Eric Sono, was Pirates captain in the 1960s and his uncle Jomo Sono was their star player in the 1970s.

Whats more, the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss expressed openness to joining the Soweto giants in a recent interview with SuperSport . He particularly praised club chairman Dr Irvin Khoza.

"Of course, I would consider it. It is a big club. It still has people who are very close to me and to my heart. I am very fond of Dr Khoza. He will always have a special place in my heart, he said.

"I've been fortunate enough that as a coach, I've learnt a lot about leadership from three of the best football leaders on the continent. Dr Khoza is number one for sure - general language, history, geography, football, humanity, religion, everything."
