West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced plans to build a cricket stadium in Darjeeling to honour India cricketer Richa Ghosh. Speaking at a felicitation ceremony for the cricketer, Banerjee said the initiative aims to celebrate Richa's achievements and inspire future generations of Bengal cricketers.
Richa was instrumental in the 2025 Women's World Cup victory. She scored 235 runs in eight games at an average of 39.16 and a strike rate of 133.52. She played cameos of 26 off 16 balls in the semifinal against Australia and 34 off 24 in the final against South Africa. The Women in Blue secured their first ICC trophy.
